Realistic 2015 New Year Resolutions to achieve as a family

When was the last time you've set yourself new year resolutions and actually achieve them by end of the year? This is all about to change with 2015 just around the corner. This year, set out realistic and achievable goals for the entire family to achieve together - whether it'll be fitness, a new hobby or more family time.

  1. Set one fitness goal
We all know how this goes – we start off the year feeling ambitious like we can take over the world with our fitness plan. Before we reach mid year, the entire plan goes down the drain with the familiar excuses getting in the way. In 2015, set a fitness goal as a family and motivate each other to reach the goal together. Whether it is running a marathon together or doing a two-day hike, make sure the goal is realistic and reachable.

  2. Cut down on screen time
Happy with technology-free quality family time during Christmas? Let it continue into the New Year! If you've been finding it hard to get your kids to have some screen free time away from their computer, iPad and video games then aim small to begin with. Set aside one day a week for screen free family activities – whether it'll be taking a walk outside or playing a good old fashion board game.

  3. Eat healthier
If you think cutting down on ice-cream, chocolates and hot chips is the way to go then you need to re- think your strategy. Think back to the last time you try to cut off all those bad food from your family diet and how the plan failed miserably. Instead, aim to cook more as a family. Learn about each other’s eating habits, likes and dislikes and think of ways to improve your family’s diet as a whole.

  4. Set regular date nights
When was the last time the two of you had a quality night out? Time away from the kids, doing something the both of you love? Be organised in advance to sort out babysitting plan and book show tickets/ restaurant early so that you can go on your date night with a clear head and relaxed mind.

  5. Try a new hobby together
Have you been putting aside your hobbies since having kids? Time is precious but putting aside time to learn something new and enjoyable will prove to be rewarding in the long run. If you’re worried about who will look after your kids while you head off to jewellery making/ Spanish/ Yoga class, look for something that you and your kids can learn together!

  6. Listen and appreciate each other more
We are all guilty of this – we see our family everyday, have breakfast and dinner together, yet sometimes we feel a distance between one another. When was the last time you asked about each other’s day – I mean really care about the response. It’s easy to get carried away by the hustles and bustles of everyday lives and forget to listen and appreciate the company of your family.
