More than fun and games

It can be hard be hard to find new ways to occupy the kids every weekend - especially if you want them to learn something while they play.

Luckily, there are plenty of fun and educational activities for kids in Sydney this weekend. Here are three of the best. Bring out their inner Junior MasterChef at these one-off Italian cooking classes. Logan Campbell of Lucio's Italian Restaurant and Roberto Taffuri of Ventuno and Cavallino will teach kids to make basic Italian dishes at cooking classes this weekend.

As part of the Gusto Italian food festival, kids aged six –12 can choose between a pizza or pasta workshop. They will be guided through every step of the preparation and cooking. The miniature chefs can then enjoy the final stage of cooking - eating their tasty creation. Family Science Fun Day Experiments of every kind will be erupting from all corners of the Powerhouse Museum this weekend. As part of the Ultimo Science Festival, the museum is holding a Family Fun Science Day.

Kids can meet Cogs the Robot and take part in hands-on workshops. They can also watch spectacular science tricks performed by ABC’s Surfing Scientist, Ruben Meerman from Rollercoaster and Catalyst. Family Science Fun Day will be held this Saturday at the Powerhouse Museum, Sydney. Booking is recommended for the Super Silly Slime workshops. Ph: 9217 0222.
