5 Reasons Why Art is a Great Kids Activity

I have a 7 year-old son who does not like to do school work. He says it is boring. Like the majority of young kids during Math's, English, Science classes & Lessons they will easily lose his interest, unless you show him funny and playful visual aids. Let’s face it! Kids need to be kept engaged to hold their attention. With the advent of modern technology, our children often set aside school activities just for the sake of playing electronic equipment. This is definitely not my idea of a healthy kids activity. How to get them away from the TV and involved in other activities for kids? Why not enroll them in art classes and lessons where they can have fun and develop their creative talents.

In fact, according to the latest research, there are many benefits that children can gain in learning art at an early age. Some of them include:

  1. Art stimulates both sides of the brain
  2. 33% of kids are visual learners
  3. Research shows that kids who are involved in art read better, and get higher grades in Math and Science
  4. Kids easily learn when using their senses and art is ideal in this process
  5. Art promotes self esteem

I have enrolled my kids in art classes & lessons and they really enjoy it. One teacher told me that since my son started taking Art classes & lessons he has become increasingly interested in pictures of cartoon characters, pop-up books and planetary models that she uses in teaching the "boring subjects". Much to my surprise he is paying attention in classes.

Many people think that art is not to be taken seriously because it seems that children only play with it and that they do not learn anything from it at all. Actually, it is just the exact opposite. When kids enjoy doing something, they will also focus and learn.

Art classes & lessons have something that normal classroom settings otherwise lack. They teach children to get in touch with their artistic skills to create an image or anything without being purely objective. This allows their ideas and feelings to flow freely, giving them the opportunity to show who they truly are and their artistic talent.

Through art, children also develop their motor skills and coordination by painting, drawing, or reconstructing the things that their senses perceive. Moreover, they learn how to feel good or bad about certain actions, a sense of empathy which will later on help them enhance their critical thinking skills.

There is a list of cool arts and crafts classes and lessons in the ActiveActivities Directory.  Why not give them a try? You might be surprised at what it can do for your kids For parents with kids who experience difficulty in studying, why not enroll them in art classes and lessons? It’s the perfect kids activity helping them to unwind and improve their mental and emotional skills.  Perhaps you should make art one of your kids activities.
